Do These 5 Things to Increase Your Energy

Ready to give that energy of yours a boost?
Here are the top 5 things you can start doing today and make the shift!

1- Create a morning routine
My morning routine takes just under two hours. I can't stress enough the importance of a great morning routine; it will set you up for a successful, energetic day and life.
I experimented with a few different things and figured out what worked for me. You should do the same, and soon you'll know what works for you, and you'll enjoy starting your day that way.

2- Eat real, high-quality, fresh food
Purchasing and eating freshly-grown fruits and vegetables is the best way to ensure there are no preservatives, chemicals or dyes added to your food. It keeps your body running on clean sources for energy and naturally you'll feel more vibrant and energetic. (try the smoothie recipe below!)

                                                                    More Fruit, Less Fuss!

One of the easiest ways to get some fruit into your beautiful body is by making a smoothie! I know smoothies get too much hype and sometimes they just sound too complicated or fancy or...But the truth is, it can be super simple, easy and without the extra fuss.

I personally think the simpler the better, so I choose to make mine with water, sometimes with greens and sometimes only fruits, especially in the mornings. The 'only fruit' option is easier on my digestive system, and if I'm having one in the middle of the day, I may also add a little extra boost to it, like a super food, or some clean plant protein.

This is what I made this morning:

2 Bananas
1 cup Blueberries
1 cup Frozen Wild Blueberries
Water

It's tasty, nutritious, loaded with antioxidants and the type of sugar your liver loves, has no fat, no extras, and is super quick to make and costs under $4!

3- Take one day a week just for you
A day off from work gives you an opportunity to simply enjoy a temporary respite from stress and constant obligation. It can give you time to meditate, walk the dog, start a new exercise routine, cook a nutritious meal, read a book, take a walk in nature and...
Do this and your energy level will skyrocket in no time!

4- Move your body for at least 20 minutes everyday
This goes without saying that physical activity is a MUST for a healthy body and mind. Anything that will make you sweat for 20 minutes, from fast walking to dancing to strength training, make sure you get at least 20 minutes a day into your schedule and you will see how your energy level will change after just one week of doing it.

5- Create a bedtime routine
I can't stress enough the importance of a good night's sleep. We've all been there, that night where we couldn't sleep and the dysfunctional next day, right? Once of the best ways to ensure a good night's sleep is creating a bedtime routine--certain things that you do and don't do close to bedtime that will support your deep rest!

“Unless..”

One of my favorite quotes comes from a simple children’s book. In Dr. Suess’ “The Lorax,” he says, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” This quote runs in my head as a constant life theme. I have a bit of a “save the world” complex, but as my students love to remind me, “Miss, the world is broken. There’s nothing we can do.” YIKES! That sounds pretty despairing.  Then I go back to  The Lorax  quote; if we all felt the world was beyond saving, it would be. Minor changes, little effort, and even the smallest steps are still going in the right direction. So, I am here to tell you how one average lady from Brooklyn is attempting to save the world.  In 2011 I had an idea to start a social fundraising initiative called  The Hero’s Benefit,  or THB as I so lovingly refer to it.  THB  was meant to be a response to the Extortion 17 crash, which killed 31 American Service Members and left 32 chi...

Life is Short, Lick the Spoon and Laugh...a Lot!

Christmas is almost here! I’m so excited! I absolutely love Christmas and everything about it. I do admit it comes with some stress like gift buying, wrapping, cooking, decorating, bills, work, parties...goodness, I stressed myself out just writing all that! This year I am having a stress-free Christmas. Y’all know I’m on a health and fitness journey and that is stressful enough without adding in the holidays. I have a spoon rest in the kitchen given to me by future daughter in law that says “Life is short, Lick the Spoon.” I’m going to live that this year. I’m not even going to pretend to eat healthy this week. I am going to unashamedly enjoy every single bite of holiday spirit I can shove in my mouth. It’s okay to do that, next week I’ll crawl out of my carb coma and get back to business. My mom is making my most favorite cake of all time: homemade red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting . I absolute refuse to eat red velvet cake from any shop, store and heaven forbid, a mix...

Find the Calm in Calamity

Are there days in which you sit in the calm ealry hours enjoying the peace and stillness sipping a cup of coffee? Do you talk to God in that time? Do you hear the words that pop into your mind or heart? Do you put those words from pen to paper? Or do you let the words be forgotten and fly away with another thought? Do you hear those words as a message, a thought, a purpose, your mission, a whisper from God? Or do you simply ignore them and not give those words another thought? I myself, hear them, write them, feel them and seek then when I get these little "divine downloads". Last month, in the still of the morning, while taking in the sunrise doing my daily readings and pondering LENT, a few words were whispered to me. "Find the CALM in CALAMITY." So I grabbed a pencil and my journal and sribbled the words down. What do these words mean? I started to ask "Well, how does one find CALM in CALAMITY?". I decided to literally take CALM out and looked ...
